Smoke Alarms & Fire Safety Tips
Did YOU Know….
Almost 3,000 people in the U.S. lose their lives in house fires a year. They die from inhalation of toxic gases and smoke, not a result of the burn and most fire deaths occur at night while they are sleeping. Smoke alarms save lives, prevent injuries and minimize property damage by providing an early warning to a potentially deadly fire. A working smoke alarm is one of the best and least expensive means of warning residents about a fire. Your smoke alarm will need to be checked once a month and the batteries replaced. Check out Smoke Alarms at Home tips. We DO NOT want YOU being the next victim.
If your home is a Manufactured Home check out the Fire Safety Tips.
We offer Free Smoke alarms to anyone living in Bradford County. Please fill out the Smoke Alarm Application and we will contact you to set up a day and time.
Barbecue Safety Tips
Propane and charcoal BBQ grills must only be used outdoors. If used indoors, or in any enclosed spaces such as tents, they pose both a fire hazard and the risk of exposing occupants to toxic gases and potential asphyxiation
Position the grill well away from siding, deck railing, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
Place the grill a safe distance from lawn games, play areas, and foot traffic.
Keep children and pets from the grill area: declare a three-foot “safe zone” around the grill.
Put out several long-handled grilling tools to give the chef plenty of clearance from heat and flames when cooking.
Periodically remove grease or fat buildup in trays below the grill so it cannot be ignited by a hot grill.
Campfire Safety Tips
Build campfires where they will not spread, away from dry grass and leaves.
Keep campfires small, and don’t let them get out of hand.
Keep plenty of water and a shovel around to douse the fire when you’re done. Stir it and douse it again with water.
